Honduras boasts of a great diversity of migratory, resident and even some endemic bird species such as the Emerald Humming bird within its territory, the Emerald Humming Bird is one of the more famous of our endemic species it lives in the southern part of the Pico Bonito National Park, this side’s ecosystem is a dry forest.
Also we must add the variety of aquatic birds that live within the mangrove forests
of the Atlantic Coast of Honduras.

mountain lodge famous for its bird watching trails, it is located within the Pico
Bonito National Park to be able to enjoy the opportunity to observe a wide variety
of birds due to the fact that most of the 400 bird species of Honduras reside in this
National Park, here we have the opportunity to spot species such as:

the local chapter of the National Autonomous University of Honduras, here they
have careers in Agronomy, forestal Engineering and Ecotourism. Located in the
Pico Bonito National Park in the basin of the Rio Bonito zone the University is in
charge of its management.

Birding at the Cuero y Salado Wild Life Refuge
6:45 Am we exit from La Ceiba 33 Kms of distance towards the Cuero y Salado
Wildlife Refuge.
This refuge boasts of hosting 28 % of the bird life in Honduras within its 35,000
hectares that cover this protected area. We enter from La Union into Salado Barra Community via 9 ½ Kms of railroad tracks that has the historical importance of being there since 1914 when the first train come into the Country, on a Touristic train enjoying the view spotting some birds during our journey until we reach the Motor boat that we’ll board for 2 hours through the breathtaking a Aquatic
Canals within the mangrove forest formed by the union of 4 rivers: San Juan
River, Santiago River, the Perla River and the Cuero River.
Here we have the opportunity to spot species such as:
- Boat-Billed Heron
- Black-headed trogon
- Agami heron

6:00 am we exit from La Ceiba 100kms of distance towards Tela where this impressive garden that is the Western Hemisphere. It boasts of hosting species endemic to both Honduras and Central America due to the plants, trees and fruits.

Finishing our visit in the botanical garden we continue on into the city of Tela after touring the city we take a break for refreshments at a sightseeing platform, to enjoy a panoramic view of this city.
We later stop to have lunch of fried fish. Then to clonclude our visit we stop at Triunfo de La Cruz a Garifuna community to visit before we return towards La Ceiba.

Emerald Humming Bird Area

which is the southern part of the Pico Bonito National Park it is a dry forest that
differs from the rain forests of the northern part and it is the habitat of the very
famous endemic bird species of Honduras such as the Emerald Humming Bird and many bird species.
